The process of our designs
THE IDEA
Our design process is a meticulous journey that begins with inspiration drawn from nature, art, and heritage. Each piece is conceptualised through a blend of traditional techniques and innovative design, ensuring that our craftsmanship remains at the forefront. We carefully select the finest materials, prioritising quality and sustainability, to bring our visions to life. Our skilled artisans then transform these ideas into a rough piece, paying close attention to any details missed or challenges that may occur within each individual piece.
At Seraphim & Sapphire, our design inspiration is deeply rooted in the stunning natural landscape of Dorset. The diverse ecosystems, from the rugged Jurassic coastlines to the tranquil rolling hills, provide a bounty of colours, textures, and forms that ignite our creativity. We find ourselves captivated by the intricate patterns of local flora and fauna, the ever-changing hues of the skies, and the contours of the land. Each season brings a new palette that influences our craftsmanship, encouraging us to translate the beauty of Dorset's nature into our pieces, with the colour palette being inspired by the nature as well. This harmonious blend of environment and artistry is at the heart of our unique creations, reflecting a deep appreciation for the region's natural heritage.
HAND-DRAWN
At Seraphim & Sapphire, every design begins with the process of hand drawing, a traditional technique that honours the artistry of craftsmanship. Our skilled designer maker sketches each piece with precision and care, ensuring that the essence of elegance and beauty is captured in every line. This time-honoured method allows for a unique expression of creativity, resulting in designs that are not only visually stunning but also deeply personal.
By hand-drawing we allow for the full expression of creativity while also ironing out any issues that might occur further along the line. This helps save us resources and time when creating a collection or individual piece.
Once the design is finished on paper, it’s time to translate that to a 3d piece and start bringing to life our ideas.
MOULD & CARVE
After the design process, we then begin on creating a 3d silicone mould as an initial piece, in order to continue to make adjustments and corrections where necessary. Then, we start to create our actual products from natural materials, such as the exquisite clay sourced from Florence, Italy, for our Ink & Porcelain Series. Each item is carefully carved, transforming raw elements into stunning creations that embody an experience or memory. Our focus on using natural materials ensures that each piece not only reflects our commitment to the traditionalistic elements of craftsmanship but also resonates with our desire to incorporate authenticity and heritage of origins within all our work.
DYE & HAND-PAINT
Each of our products are hand-painted by our designer makers, ensuring that every piece reflects the unique touch of the creator. Using high-quality paints and techniques refined over hours of practice, our artisans bring to life intricate designs that embody elegance and sophistication. This individual attention not only guarantees the originality of each item but also enhances its overall aesthetic appeal. The result is a collection that showcases both exquisite craftsmanship and a commitment to timeless beauty, honouring traditional methods while embracing contemporary design.
